Show News: Karcag CAC

Gi Gi and Zoltan took part on the CAC show in Karcag this weekend. Karcag is a small city on the south- east of Hungary and the show itself was also not so big, with around 500 dogs entered.

But Zoltan nad Gi gi did very well: they got what they went for: the second CAC title for Gi Gi! Basically this means, that Gi Gi is collecting the titles for the Hungarian Championship. In Hungary you have to have 5 CAC titles (2 of these 5 from CACIB or Club shows) and between the first and the last CAC titles 1 years has to pass.

So Gi Gi is on the right track:-)

Show News: Hódmezővásárhely CAC

If you were not able to pronounce Hódmezővásárhely, nevermind. This is a small city on the south-east part of Hungary, near the Serbian border. Sometimes, even for the Hungarians is difficult to spell it, but the city is not so far from Zoltan's place. Actually we entered Ivana in the last moment, when we got noticed, that the entries are still possible, so we thought why not? We can give it a try. Although there were quie heavy rains throught the week, for the weekend the situation got worse: throught the country there were serious storms, floods, so I've never thought that even driving would be so tiring. I arrived to Zoltan's place on Saturday evening, we let the dogs: Heather, Gigi, Andreas and Ivana play a little bit, while we went to watch a movie. it turned out that this was not our best idea (not the movie, but to let the dogs play), when we arrived home, all the dogs were full of mud, you can imagine how this looks in such a bright colour as Ivana's!
So Ivana spend the night into the house ans we hoped that she can dry by the morning. Well, she could, and during the one and a half hour driving she even could dry a little bit more. When we arrive thank God the rain stopped to fall for a while. The show took place on the Hódmezővásárhely fair. Actualy Vásár in Hungarian means fair, so since long time this place took home to fairs in the region. The place also was very well equiped. As here are also horse, cattle and other agricultural fairs it was professional. Half of the rings were indoor, but as wolfhounds are quite weather resistants, our ring was outside. The good thing is, that although the ring was outside, there were special boxes built from wood around the place, most propably for horses, which were quite suitable for a wolfhound:-) So the cleaning of Ivana begun: we had to take out all the dry mud from her. We met a lot of riends as well, so we spend the half day chating and laughing with friends, that is what I like in a show! Judit Fóti was there with 2 magyar agars, Monika and Laszlo Kutvölgyi were there with Tilka, their lovely barzoj, and of course they took their beautiful and European Winner Iarla (Lord) with them. We had a very good time together!
The judge of the sighthounds was Laszlo Erdos, who is a well known and well respected judge in Hungary- it is funny, that so far he only judged me once, when Uther completed his breeding certificate. But for example he often judged Zoltan's dogs.
Of course, the rain started to fall right before the begining of the judgement of the wolfhounds, and it got heavier. Ivana was not alone in her class- this time our old friend Julcsi Lutz were there with their lovely young bitch Ianna. Actually we were running in a storm while the judge watched the dogs- it was everything-thunder, rain, so it was very challenging to concentrate to the handling. But this time it worked! Ivana, for the first time was unresistable in the ring, I mean she behaved perfectly, she stood perfectly, she was really as a real show dog. And it worth it, because she got Excellent 1, Hungaria Prima Junior and Junior BOB titles. But most importantly, with this title, she is Hungarian Junior Champion! WOW! I am so proud of her, and so happy! The BOB title was given to the beautiful Iarla, who later finished as BOG3 in the best in show program (Congratulations, to Laci and Monika!)- but we did not waited it, as we wanted to get back home early. Attached the pictures- please consider the weather, so our outfit is not for the red carpet:-)

Enjoy the pictures!

Show news: Padenghe 2010/05/01

The Italian sighthound show has very special place in our calendar. When we plan the year's show schedule we always plan with this show. Why? Because it's fun! We love the place, love the atmosphere and love those precious friends athat we meet there. So in this year as well, finally we could leave for this long awaited journey. The place itself is beautiful: the show is situated in the garden of the West Garda Hotel (Padenghe is a small village by the lake Garda), the facilities are on high quality, the organization of the show is perfect. This year the well known breed specialist Mr. Jean Louis Grünheid were judging wolfhounds.
Although Ivana was tired due to the long journey (we drove all night to get there by the morning) she managed to win the young class and also she was Best Junior! Her movement was fantastic! i mean, really it was a pleasure to run with her, although she had difficulties with standing, but in running, she was wonderful! Then came Gi Gi who won the intermediate class with excellent 1, and in the competetion she got Res. CAC title! In Italy, as in many countries not every class winner gets CAC, but the intermediate, working and open class winner has a separate competetion for CAC title. And Gi Gi was res. CAC! She is only 15 months old! we were very pround of our lovely girls!
we also met a lot of friends, and we got to know Ivana's 5 months old half-brother as well, who lives in the beautiful island of Sardinia, but his family took him to the show.
It is a pity, that we could not stayed longer- we had to get back home very fast, as we had several other things to arrange on that weekend. We were very tired, but very happy- and I can promise, that next year we will be there, and we will spend more time at this beautiful place!
Thanks and greetings to our beloved friends: Maria Cristina, Marcello, Daniela, Federico...see you soon!

News- Cegléd CAC 2010/04/27

Cegléd is a small town on the eastern part of Hungary, and it is really close to Szolnok, where Zoltan lives. So we entered to the show Gi Gi and Andreas. Unfortunately during the week there were heavy rains on that part of the country so the grass was wet, and it was really difficult to present the dogs. Before the iW's the barzojs were judged, and some handlers fell down on the wet fground. But it seemrd that neither ANdreas, nor Gi Gi was not affected by the quality of the ring's grass, because both of them did very well. First of all, Andreas received his second CAC title, he was stunning in the ring, and he developed his show skills a lot! Then came Gi Gi, this time in young class, bot although she got concurence in the class, she got the HPJ title and with this title she finished her Hungarian Junior Championship! We were very happy and proud of her!
And again: as the show was not so far from home, we arrived home by lunchtime:-)

Show news: Kalocsa CAC

Another great day for the Lahrob team:-)
Kalocsa is a lovely city on the south-middle of Hungary, actually my father was also born there. But some friends told me that the shows are lovely there, so we visited the place. Actually, the place was lovely, but I have to say, I did not understand why the prices of a soft drink or a meal had to be as high as in downtown Budapest? So I have mixed impressions about the place.
But the show was otherwise quite OK. We entered Ivana, Gi Gi and for the first time Andreas as well. It was Andreas first show at the age of 5 years, so we were very happy when he got the CAC title from the judge, Mr. Istvan Laszlo. Andreas was not in 100% show condition, however I know that Zoltan worked on the grooming a lot, but when we saw the pictures take there we realized, that there was more to do. And beside this the whole show atmosphere was new to Andreas, so we were very happy about the title. Then came Bogyo, receiving again HPJ, the judge said she is lovely, but sure needs to mature. Gi Gi also did very well! Just 15 months old she received her first CAC title from intermediate class.
Beside this we had nice chats with some friends, so we had a good time.
So I think it was a fine day, but the best was, that we left the place quite early, and arrived home in time:-)

Show news: Miskolc CACIB show

Although Ivana made her show debut on the previous week, I knew, that this was her real debut: an International show, with sighthound specialist judge Dr. Cristian Vantu, and even there was concurence in young class...so I was quite nervous.
So was Ivana, but somehow, she made it again: she got the HPJ title again! And if this would not be enough, she ran for the Best Junior title with her half-brother Tilk. And she got it! I could not believe it! But we still had one run to go: for BOB title she ran with the CACIB bitch..and Ivana got BOB again! I could not find the words to discribe my happyness. by the afternoon, when the BIS competetion started, Ivana was too tired to concentrate, and I have to confess, I also was really tired. No doubt, that in the BOG competetion a young class dog would not be placed, especially, when there was 9 beautiful sighthounds, proud champions in the ring. In the junior BOG competetion she was res. Junior BOG behind a lovely wippet. And Ivana got her second trophy, as the all BOB winners received one:-) I was really very proud of her: being BOB in an international dogshow, under a sighthound specialist judge in just 13 months of age, that is really impressive!
Show News: MKSZ CAC 2010/03/27

This was Ivana's first dog show! we were lucky enough to have a lovely weather, and thanks to the organizer team the show was also lovely. Ivana got her very first Hungarian Prima Junior (HPJ) title and above this she received BOB title as well. I was in the seveth heaven, and things were not over yet: in the BIS competetion she was in the last 4 dogs within the Junior BIS competetion, unfortunately only 2 dogs were chosen, so my Bogyo was not placed. But a couple of minutes later, in the BOG competetion she was placed res. BOG behind my friend's Gellert afghan hound! (and that afghan later on got Res. BIS title!). Both breed and BOG judge was Laszlone Sebestyen.
It was a lovely day, and Ivana got her first trophy.

Boys

There are just a few things in which we cannot agree with Zoltan: one of the question of males in the pack. I always say that my life would be empty without having amale dog in the pack, but Zoltan says, he can live without them, she prefers female dogs. But beside this, we are always having one or two male dog around. They are such a respectable creatures, with huge self confidence, and their appearance makes me feel that everything is all right.
So here are our beloved boys.

Uther

I would have been started the whole story with him...I know it is not right to say such thing, but he is my one and only, he is MY WOLFHOUND. He has a special shine, that gentle giant personality that makes wolfhounds such a unique breed. Uther's full name is Greirish Upshot Uther, and he arrived to me from Sweden from the famous kennel Greirish, bred by Per Lundström. I have to confess, that I can never say Thank you enough times to Mr. Lundström for Uther.
Beside the trully gentle, kind and loveable soul that Uther has he has great show appearance. Uther is already Champion in 3 countries (Hungary, Croatia and Montenegro) has several CACIB, BOB, titles has been placed several times in BOG competetion and has one BIS title as well. Uther is a great stud dog: he has sired 3 litters so far, including the of Lahrob C-litter.

Andreas

Andreas was bred by Connie Fernhout- Schildt at the kennel Pitlochry's in the Netherlands.
His full name is Pitlochry's Andreas, and he has great lines in his pedigree.
Andreas arrived to us as an adult dog, and we were very happy to welcoming him in our home.
He is a very strong dog with very commanding appearance, but on the same time very sweet ad lovely personality. He found his place quickly and easily in the pack, and by now he is admired and accepted by the others as well. I love his head: when you look into his eyes you see his whole life, his experiences, and a special tender shine, as he is looking at you.
However he was never shown before, we started to show him, and by now he has 2 CAC titles.
He also has nice offsprings, so we can't wait to see how his puppies will look like with our lines!

Ladies

Heather

Our grand old lady, Heathy is more, than 7 years old now. She was sired by Zoltan's male Philip, but Zoltan received her as an adult dog at the age of 3. Heather's name is Siegmound's Alfrin, but if you would search her name in dog show results, you could hardly every find the name...as she was shown only a few times, however she even has BOB title. Heather prooved her qualities as a mother of 3 Lahrob litters, she is a wonderful Mom.
Now, she is living the calm and happy life together with her daughter Gi Gi and Zoltan's male dog Andreas. Beside her age Heather is still in full condition and even sometimes she can run faster then the youngsters!
As you can see, she also likes to enjoy spring sunshine with the others...

And she likes to teach her daughter Gigi how to guard the garden:-)
Gi Gi

As I mentioned above, Heather is a great Mom, and she had several beautiful puppies. One of her puppies is Gigi. Her name is Gi Gi Girl of Lahrob, and she was Sired by the great and beautiful Je N'ai Rien Oublie Angus. She is carrying both her mother's and father's qualities. She is a very attracktive young girl, but sometimes silly, but this is because her age...:-)
As a puppy she was placed in Puppy BIS competetion several times, including on Club- and Specialty Shows, so we were very happy to have such a promising girl, and she continues to be succsessful as she grows: she is already Hungarian junior champion, and has several BOB titles as well.
On this picture, Gi Gi in a show winning her first CAC title in intermediate class.
Gigi also has class winner title from italy, when she was beside this avarded with res. CAC title (in Italy 1 CAC winner is choosen from intermediate, working and open class winners)

Ivana

Another youngster, another silly girl:-)
Ivana is the youngest in the pack, she is only 14 months old, full of energy, kind, lovely, but let's confess: she is not the smartest dog that we have. Ok, she has time to develop her knowledge, so I think by the time goes she will put herself together.
She is a nice mixture of several bloodlines, and I think we are very lucky to have such a nice mixture. Ivana's full name is Ivana Trump Irish Love of Lahrob, we call her Bogyo. Bogyo means Berry in Hungarian, and it is very funny to name such a big dog after a such a small fruit.
Ivana is also very successful: she is 3 times Hungarian Prima Junior, 3 times Junior BOB, 2x BOB and Reserve best in Group. And she is also Italian Juni
or Clubwinner.
On the bellow picture you can see a shot from the dog shwo in Kalocsa: Ivana and behind her Gi Gi running in the ring. Aren't they beautiful?

Our wolfhounds

At this moment, we have 5 irish wolfhounds. Beside the wolfhounds I have a pumi, which is a Hungarian breed, a so- called "shepherd terrier", andI have a cat, the irresistible Greta Garbo.
2 of our irish wolfhounds are living with me, and 3 dogs are living with Zoltan.

Welcome!

I've never thought that I ever would write a blog, but here I am:-)
This is a wolfhound blog, an Irish wolfhound blog, and I will try to write down what is happening around us.
The reason why I chose to write a blog, is that since a couple of months, every single week I've been sending "newsletter e-mails" to my friends with show results or other interesting happenings, and I realized that having all the things put together in a blog would be easier. This way it is easy to follow up our life.

But first of all let's start to introduce the "current crew", our wolfhounds, and ourselves.
